Archival Record of Substation No.7
1952
Located in Inglewood’s historic light-industrial corridor, between the train tracks and 9th Avenue, the building reflects a period when this part of the neighbourhood was shaped as much by industry and infrastructure as it was by community. Its brick, steel and concrete construction was engineered for durability, with a scale and permanence suited to the heavy equipment it was originally built to contain.
Today, much of that character remains intact. The original brick exterior, steel structure, leaded windows and concrete surfaces continue to define the building, while its purpose has gradually shifted from distributing electrical energy to supporting a different kind of activity.
Now home to a collection of independent businesses, creative practices and our adaptable event venue, Sub Space, The Substation continues to operate as a point of connection — carrying forward the building’s history while allowing new ideas, businesses and communities to move through it.
